Formula 1 Circuit in Bintan to Carry Green Concept – Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Batam – Bintan International Circuit, which is constructed for Formula 1 or F1 events in Riau Islands, will carry a green concept as it is located adjacent to the mangrove conservation area. Besides, the concept is in line with G20’s theme of environment.
“The circuit in Bintan is unique because it is close to mangrove forests or conservation area,” said Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo when meeting with Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad, Saturday, June 18, 2022. “That is the main attraction by carrying out the green circuit concept.”
Ansar said mangrove forest conservation is also a major concern of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo. The President even planted mangroves on Setokok Island, Batam, on September 28, 2021. Mangroves could improve coastal ecosystems, reduce seawater abrasion, and reduce carbon emissions more than tropical forests on land.
“The mangrove forest around the circuit is indeed very vast. It can take an hour and a half if we go around the forest, so this circuit’s concept will be ecotourism,” said Ansar.
Later, the circuit will be named Bintan International Green Circuit. The total length of the circuit is 5.2 kilometers with 17 corners.
General Manager of Bintan Resort Cakrawala Abdul Wahab expressed optimism that the Bintan International Circuit could attract foreign tourists. Moreover, Lagoi Bintan is renowned as an integrated tourist area offering eco-tourism and sports tourism.
“Bintan International Green Circuit further complements the existing facilities in Lagoi. Foreign tourists are increasingly interested in visiting Bintan,” said Wahab.
