Is it better to stay in patong or karon?
Patong is a bit bigger, busier and louder. Kata offers a beautiful bay, but it can collect rubbish. Patong is much bigger than the other two, for a couple I would maybe recommend Karon Beach. If you want to escape for a day, you have the choice of either going to Kata, which sits over the small hill, or the big party town of Patong, which goes the other way. Karon is a great place to stay if you want a little nightlife but don’t quite face it.
It’s neither too crowded nor too quiet — it’s a good space in between. I’m planning for Thailand at the end of May with family but really have no idea where to stay and what the budget should be for hotel and family shopping+travel. Right across from Patong Beach, this resort offers some of the best value for money with a fantastic swimming pool and pool bar to name a few. Still undecided whether to book a hotel for the full 2 weeks or try to explore Phuket and stay in different places.
If you’re looking for a cheap homestay in Phuket, you’ve come to the right place in this Old Town fan room. I also thought about staying 3 nights in Karon and 3 nights in Krabi (Railay) – as I’ve heard the boat tours from Krabi are more reasonable than Phuket. It is arguably one of the best hotels in Phuket, close to the beach and Karon nightlife. I would recommend that if you are staying in a hotel, arrange a hotel transfer rather than taking a taxi from the airport as they tend to overwhelm you.
My husband and I (early 30s) will travel to Phuket, arrive at the airport later in the night and only stay 1 night to get off and visit other surrounding areas. Karon is home to the island’s second largest tourist beach, offering breathtaking views, shimmering turquoise waters and the tranquil, squeaky sandy beaches that Thailand is famous for. Karon is the third longest beach on the island and the place where you’ll find a number of great resorts surrounded by nature and exotic plants. Alternatively, go to Karon Temple Market on Tuesdays and Fridays. They sell similar things to the bazaar, but you can also find food and fruit, many of which most westerns have never seen before.
With a variety of accommodation options, you’re guaranteed to find accommodation to suit your style and budget.
