Kempinski announces management of Lombok beach resort – TOPHOTELNEWS
Kempinski Hotels is one of the first international hotel groups to operate a luxury resort on Lombok island.
The group signed a management agreement with Indonesian developer PT. Teluk Agung Alami to operate The Apurva Kempinski Lombok.
An idyllic setting
Kempinski Hotels is continuing on from more than three years of successful collaboration with PT. Teluk Agung Alami at the 2019-opened The Apurva Kempinski Bali by taking on the management of this Lombok property.
This resort, which is set to open in 2027, is located on 14.3 hectares of beachfront in a secluded bay on the island’s southwestern coast.
“The southern coast of Lombok is an unspoiled paradise, a land before time where lush hillsides and awe-inspiring bays are surrounded by some of the clearest tropical waters in Southeast Asia,” said Bernold Schroeder, chief executive officer of Kempinski Group and chairman of the Management Board of Kempinski AG.
“We are thrilled to be partnering again with PT. Teluk Agung Alami to open The Apurva Kempinski Lombok, which promises to be one of the most outstanding resorts in Indonesia. The resort will complement the already successful The Apurva Kempinski Bali, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable island-hopping adventure across two spectacular destinations.”
“This new signing reinforces our position as a steadily expanding hotel management group with outstanding properties and reflects our grand ambitions for the region.”
William Katuari, owner PT Teluk Agung Alami, commented: “We are very excited about our new project in Lombok, and together with Kempinski, we will put this island on the map for luxury travellers around the globe.”
A major new development
On opening, The Apurva Kempinski Lombok will have 200 large suites and villas, along with a spa and wellness facility drawing on Indonesian healing traditions and five dining venues celebrating the local cuisine. A lawn and meeting rooms will provide space for events.
This resort is a part of a mixed-use development due to encompass up to 10 hotels and resorts on Mekaki Beach. This site will also be home to a ranch, equestrian centre and organic farm. The development aims to become an integrated luxury resort destination similar to Nusa Dua in Bali.
The mixed-use development is a part of the Indonesian government’s efforts to drive tourism growth across four areas including Lombok. Additional plans include extending the runway at Lombok International Airport, upgrading Port Lembar to accommodate yachts and cruise liners and building a new international hospital.
March also marks the launch of MotoGP Indonesia at the new Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit.
The new development that this Kempinski resort is to be a part of spans 157 hectares and stretches along 3.6km of Mekaki Beach, which is backed by Mekaki Hill.
Lombok is celebrated for its landscape of rice paddies, mountains such as mount Rinjani white sand beaches, traditional villages and local markets. This island is a jumping off point for the Gili Islands and trips to Komodo National Park. Travellers can reach Lombok in 30 minutes on a flight from Bali or on a two-hour flight from Jakarta.
