Thirubuvanam Sarees, Tanjore – TAMIL NADU TOURISM

A wrap of glory!

The craft of silk weaving has been practised in the town of Thirubuvanam for generations, and the charm of it remains intact. The art is well-known for its distinct patterns, which were greatly influenced by the Chola dynasty. Thirubuvanam silk sarees are light in weight and have a variety of exquisite motifs as well as a unique folding pattern, making them a craft developed to offer you the woven glossy grandeur.

The speciality of Thirubuvanam silk sari is that filature silk is used for both warp and weft, resulting in a fabric of high quality, uniform and high-lustre. Silk is folded in the sari like an angavasthram. It is also known for its intricate border and pallu designs, which are aesthetically embellished with fine zari. The wide borders in contrast colours with intricate motif patterns are very fascinating. The most popular motifs are influenced by temples, flowers, natural leaves, fruits, Maayilkan-the peacock’s eye, Rudraksham-Rudraksha beads, and birds like peacocks and parrots.
