Good news for devotees visiting Vaishno Devi[1], from Sunday 24, a ropeway has been opened for the devotees traversing across Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Bhairo Mandir. The newly opened up ropeway will reduce the travel time from 3 hours to 5 minutes. After a successful trial run of Sunday, the ropeway would be accessible to the devotees from Monday.

The Need for a Ropeway

The distance between Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Bhairo Valley isn’t much but because of extreme ascent, the hike turns to a tiring one. Also, since a majority of devotees visiting Vaishno Devi are old, the ropeway would help them reach Bhairo Mandir[2] easily and faster. The distance between the Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Bhairo Valley is 1.5 km but it’s a 3 hours hike. But with the newly inaugurated ropeway, devotees can reach Bhairo Ghati in 5 minutes. Also, in the cases of landslides and heavy snowfall, the trails used to be inaccessible but the ropeway would make the temple accessible all the time. In a survey, it was concluded that only 40% of the total devotees successfully reach the temple top.
