Walking around Shah Alam in Selangor: – Selangor Japan Friendship Garden (Taman Persahabatan Selangor – Jepun) opened on 12th March 2021 by Mayor of Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Datuk Haris Kasim together with Japan Information Service 3rd secretary from the Japan Embassy, Iwai Imari. The Selangor Japan Friendship Garden located at the East Lake of Shah Alam Lake Gardens had been designed with cultural elements to signify the mutual friendship and strong cooperation between Selangor and Japan. Japanese landscape theme along with bridges and bonsai trees boasted features that were ideal for wedding photo shoots. This new garden of Selangor Japan Friendship Garden cost over RM3.8 million to build. It is also meant to symbolise the trade and investment ties between Selangor and Japan, and add an attraction to the already-bustling state. Operational Hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 10.00am – 7.00pm Closed on Monday – Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque is the state mosque of Selangor, Malaysia. It is located in Shah Alam. It is the country’s largest mosque and also the second largest mosque in Southeast Asia by capacity. Its most distinguishing feature is its large blue and silver dome. The mosque has four minarets, one erected at each of the corners. The mosque was commissioned by the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz, when he declared Shah Alam as the new capital of Selangor on 14 February 1974. Construction began in 1982 and finished on 11 March 1988. The mosque is also known as the Blue Mosque owing to its blue dome. The mosque has the distinction of having the largest religious dome in the world, measuring 51.2 m (168 ft) in diameter and reaching 106.7 m (350 ft) above ground level. The four minarets, each reaching 142.3 m (467 ft) above ground level, are the third tallest in the world, after those at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco,[4] and the Djamaa el Djazaïr in Algiers, Algeria. In its early years, the mosque was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the tallest minaret in the world before being supplanted by the 210 m (690 ft) minaret at the Hassan II Mosque in August 1993. However, the mosque still maintains the distinction of having the world’s tallest group of minarets. – The Tugu Peringatan Selangor or Selangor State Memorial/Monument in Shah Alam commemorates those who gave their lives for the state. It is located in the formal landscaped garden of the Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the State Secretariat building. Constructed in 1981, the architect is Dato’ Dr Hj Baharuddin bin Abu Kassim.
